Safdarjung Airport was the first airport in Delhi, located about 12 km from Indira Gandhi
International Airport. The airport is next to the Safdarjang Tomb, Delhi's famous landmark. Covering an area of 253 acres at an elevation of 695 ft, Safdarjung Airport is still used for aviation purposes. The runway is used by the Delhi Flying Club (DFC) and private firms for their small planes. The Delhi Gliding Club, Balloon Club of India and Aero Club of India are situated here.
Safdarjüng Airport (IATA: N/A, ICAO: VIDD) is an airport in New Delhi, India, in the neighbourhood of the same name. It is home to the Delhi Flying Club. It used to be known as Willingdon Airfield and served as Delhi's main airport before the construction of the Indira Gandhi International Airport. It is still used for general aviation purposes and small propeller planes take off and land from the airport. However, planes are cautioned when landing, since the airport is situated right next to a flyover highway. Indira Gandhi International Airport is the current airport serving New Delhi; a significantly larger airport with multiple runways and over sixty domestic and international carriers serving it.
