Uzbekistan Airways

Uzbekistan Airways is the national airline of Uzbekistan. The airline came into being after the dissolution of Soviet Union. Uzbek President Islam Karimov in 1992 ordered the construction of a state airline. The main objective behind the formation of Uzbekistan Airways was to build a modern transport infrastructure. Uzbekistan Airways wanted to maintain a strong presence in the international aviation industry since its inception. Hence its maiden flight was from Tashkent to London.
Uzbekistan Airways launched its domestic flights using aircrafts formally belonging to Aeroflot. In 1993, it started using Airbus aircrafts for its international routes. Presently, Uzbekistan Airways’ international fleet uses a mixture of Boeing and Airbus aircrafts.
Uzbekistan Airways presently serves approximately 50 destinations worldwide and at home from Tashkent. The airline owns 11 airports, 5 of which have International status. In India, Uzbekistan Airways flies to Delhi and Amritsar.
