El Al Airline
El Al Airlines is the national airline of Israel. It was established in 1948 and its main hub is Ben Gurion International Airport, Tel Aviv.
El Al’s inaugural flight in September 1948 brought Israel’s first president, Chaim Weizman, home from Geneva. El Al airline started commercial operations in August 1949 with a service from Tel Aviv to Rome and Paris. In 1950, El Al started flying to London. In June 1961, El Al’s first non-stop New York/Tel Aviv flight on a Boeing 707 set the world record for the longest non-stop commercial flight covering 5,760 statute miles in 9 hours, 33 minutes. In 1984, March El Al recorded the first international Boeing 767 flight from Montreal to Tel Aviv. In 1988, El Al operated its longest non-stop flight in history: Los Angeles/Tel Aviv: 7,000 statute miles in 13 hours, 41 minutes. In March 2000, El Al introduced Boeing 777 in its fleet. In June 2003, El Al went public as part of its privatization process and its stocks were registered for trading on the Tel Aviv Exchange. In 2004, the airline ceased to be a government company and in January 2005, its control was transferred to private ownership.
El Al Airline has an all-Boeing fleet. Its fleet consists of 2 Boeing 737-700, 6 Boeing 737-800, 5 Boeing 747-200, 5 Boeing 747-400, 5 Boeing 757-200, 8 Boeing 767, 6 Boeing 757, and 4 Boeing 777-200. El Al operates international scheduled passenger flights to Africa, Asia, North America, Europe and the Middle East. In India, El Al flies to Mumbai.
