Cathay Pacific Airways is an international airline registered and based in Hong Kong, offering scheduled cargo and passenger services to over 90 destinations around the world. According to the figures based on the full-year data for 2004, Cathay Pacific ranks as the world's third most profitable airline (net profit) and sixth largest airline by stock market value.
Cathay Pacific Airways was founded by American Roy C Farrell and Australian Sydney H de Kantzow in Hong Kong on 24 September, 1946. The airline was initially based in Shanghai and was later on moved to Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific initially operated flights on Manila, Bangkok, Singapore and Shanghai. In 1948, one of Hong Kong's leading trading companies, Butterfield & Swire overtook the management of the airline.
Cathay Pacific serves 92 destinations worldwide. In India, Cathay Pacific flies to Delhi and Mumbai. Cathay Pacific is also a founding member of the oneworld global alliance whose combined network serves over 570 destinations worldwide. Cathay Pacific presently has a fleet of 97 aircrafts. These include 11 Boeing 777-300, 5 Boeing 777-200, 22 Boeing 747-400(a), 6 Boeing 747-400 freighters, 7 Boeing 747-200 freighters, 15 Airbus A340-300, 26 Airbus A330-300, and 3 Airbus A340-600.
