About Us

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation was established in August, 1961 under the provisions of the Road Transport Corporation Act 1950 with the objective of providing “adequate, efficient, economic and properly coordinated road transport services”. Three Corporations viz., BMTC, Bangalore from 15-08-1997, NWKRTC, Hubli from 01-11-1997 and NEKRTC, Gulbarga from 01-10-2000 were formed out, on a regional basis, with KSRTC doing operations covering Southern Karnataka and interstate areas.

KSRTC operates its services to all villages in the State, which have motorable roads. 92% of the villages in monopoly area (6743 out of 7298) and 44% in non-monopoly area (5158 out of 11789) have been provided with transport facility by KSRTC. At present it has one corporate office, 11 divisional offices, 57 depots, 110 bus stations, 2 bus bodybuilding workshops,
1 printing press, 3 training Institutes and 1 hospital. It operates 5100 schedules with 5400 vehicles (including 164 hired private vehicles) covering 19.50 lakh Kms. and carries on an average 22 lakh passengers daily. About 25000 employees are working in the Corporation.

IT Initiatives & Others

100% computerization in depots, introduction of ETMs in all its 57 depots covering over 5000 schedules, implementation of Oracle Financials at Central Offices, providing e-mail facility to all depots, divisions and other units, computerization of entire process of recruitment at all levels, introduction of e-tendering process etc., are some of the areas where the Corporation has achieved substantial progress.

One of the important land marks in the history of KSRTC is the introduction of an unique computerized objective Drivers Testing system and bringing transparency in appointment of drivers totally eliminating human element in awarding marks.

The Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement Act has been followed.

Introduction of a unique scheme called Accident Relief Fund has entitled the dependents of the passenger to receive an immediate compensation of Rs 2.00 lakh in case of accidental death, in addition to the compensation that will be awarded by MACT later.

It has introduced of Service Guaranteed Scheme since 01/11/2002 for its prestigious Airavata (Volvo) and Rajahamsa services. This entitles the passengers to get part refund in fare in case of delay for more than half-an-hour either in departure or in arrival.

KSRTC has reached yet another mile stone in its IT field by introducing a new system named as AWATAR (Any Where Any Time Advance Reservation), by which any passenger can reserve tickets well in advance on-line from any part of the world through internet, to travel from any place to any place on the routes on which the Corporation operates its services. The passengers can reserve their seats using debit or credit card also. KSRTC is the first transport Corporation in India to implement the software of this kind.

On this occasion KSRTC assures its commuters that some more projects of this kind will be taken up in the near future with a view to serve them to the best of its ability and strive hard to reach every village in the State not only through road but also over net.

KSRTC Overview

Public transit facility in karnataka is provided by different state government authorities for better facility to its passengers. There are about four units providing public transit namely Banglore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), North East Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NEKRTC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). KSRTC has approximately 4000+ buses in its fleet and it carries about 2 million passengers daily. KSRTC runs AIR-CONDITIONED MAYURA (36 Passenger seats), RAJAHAMSA (35 Passengers seats), SEMI DELUXE (45 Passenger seats), KARNATAKA SAARIGE (55 Passenger seats), CITY (43 Passenger seats), GRAMEENA SAARIGE MINI (40 Passenger seats) types of buses to cater the needs of passengers in Karnataka.

KSRTC Reservation

Advance Reservation Counters

Advance Reservation Counters (Computerised / Manual) are provided at all major bus stations. In these counters, passengers can reserve seats upto 10 days in advance for the selected services operated from that bus station. Passengers holding advance reservation tickets are entitled to free travel from their residence to the bus stations in city services, whereever such services are in operation. Free travel is permitted upto two hours before the scheduled time of departure indicated in the advance reservation ticket. KSRTC is now allowing private agencies for advance booking of long distance bus tickets and door-delivery of such tickets.

Tickets can also be booked using the email service provided by KSRTC.

KSRTC Student Pass / Concessions category

Students studying up to 7 standard can avail a special concession of Rs 6/- per month upto 40 kms.

Students studying up to 8th, 9th and 10th standard can avail a special concession of Rs. 18/- per month up to 40 kms.

College students, can avail a concession of upto Rs. 36/- per month travelling up to 40 kms.

Evening college/ Ph.D. Students get a concession of Rs. 60/- per month travelling up to 40 kms.

50 % concessional travel facility to the Drama Troupes & Yekshagana troupes sponsored by Karnataka Sangeetha Nataka Academy.

Monthly passes to working journalists at the rate of Rs. 10/- per pass in city services without restrictions on the number of trips.

Blind persons are issued free passes to travel in mofussil, Suburban and City services.

Free passes are issued to freedom fighters to travel in Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation buses except in Puspak, Luxury and super deluxe buses within state.

KSRTC introduced monthly season passes for the convenience of the regular commuters travelling in Mofussil buses. The pass holder can travel in Ordinary / Express buses up to 11 stages. Monthly season tickets once issued in the name of an individual are not transferable.

Additional Rs. 40 processing charge per pass will be charged for High School and College student pass. Passes are issued both for 5 months and 10 months period. Where as free passes and evening college passes / Ph.D. student passes are issued only for a 10 month period.
KSRTC Freedom Tickets

To encourage commuters to travel in KSRTC services, reduce the workload of the conductors and to increase the revenue to KSRTC, Freedom Ticket was introduced where in the pass holder is permitted to travel for seven days within the state or outside the state irrespective of the distance of travel by using the class of service passenger prefers. The fare structure differs depending upon type of service e.g. Ordinary, Express, Hi-Tech, Luxury etc.
